Parents showing affection, the baby feels heartbroken, and the dog is worried. /Story/

In the warmth of their living room, Emily and Daniel sat on the couch, their hands intertwined. It had been a long week, but tonight, they found a rare moment to connect. Soft music played from a nearby speaker, blending harmoniously with the crackling of the fireplace. Their smiles were gentle, their shared laughter bubbling up like the fizz in a glass of champagne.

But across the room, in a wooden crib nestled beside the window, their one-year-old daughter, Lily, wasn’t smiling. Her tiny hands gripped the edge of the crib, and her wide, teary eyes darted between her parents. A heavy sigh escaped her as her lower lip quivered. To her young heart, those shared smiles and hugs felt like a betrayal. Weren’t they supposed to focus all their love on her? The ache of being left out was a new and bewildering feeling.

At the foot of the crib, Max, the family’s loyal golden retriever, noticed Lily’s distress. His ears perked up as he tilted his head, his brown eyes mirroring concern. With a quiet whimper, he padded over to the crib and rested his chin on the wooden rail. His tail wagged slowly, as if to say, I’m here for you, little one.

Lily sniffled and reached out her tiny hand to touch Max’s soft fur. The dog stood still, letting her take comfort in his presence. Max’s worried expression didn’t waver, but for a moment, Lily’s tears subsided.

From the couch, Emily glanced over and saw the tender exchange. “Oh, sweetheart,” she whispered, getting up and scooping Lily into her arms. Daniel followed, stroking Max’s head as they all came together. It wasn’t long before Lily’s frown melted away in the embrace of her loving family.
